Hot Water Beach
Hot Water Beach is an amazing location on the northern arm of Lake Tarawera at Te Rata Bay. This beach is located in a secluded bay and is only accessible by boat. Thermal springs gently rise through the lake bed warming the water and creating mystical steam shrouded cliffs. The perfect location for a relaxing swim in the naturally heated pools. An absolute must do while in Rotorua.
- Cruise from the Landing Jetty to Hot Water Beach – return transfer to Landing jetty

Tarawera Outlet for access to Tarawera Falls walking track
The Tarawera Outlet is located on the eastern arm of Lake Tarawera. This large, popular campsite is accessible by car from Kawerau, on foot or by boat. Facilities include toilets, cooking shelter and a boat ramp. The water supply is from the river and requires boiling before use. Fees apply and are payable to the on-site warden. Tarawera Falls is located 6 kilometres (walking time 1.5hrs) from the Outlet jetty.
These are the most spectacular falls in the Bay of Plenty. See the Tarawera River disappearing underground at various sites before plunging 65 metres down a sheer cliff face and tumbling down bush-lined rapids. The Tarawera River bed around the falls is carved into ancient volcanic rocks and the high cliffs are thought to be eroded end face of an ancient lava flow that poured from Mt Tarawera about 11,000 year ago. One of New Zealand’s best kept secrets.

Humpries Bay for access to Lake Okataina and Tarawera Outlet walking track
At the Northern and of Lake Tarawera, Humpries Bay is a pleasant picnic and camping spot accessible by boat or along the Northern Tarawera Track, a moderate tramping track from the Tarawera Outlet. For those serious trampers.
- Cruise from the Landing jetty across Lake Tarawera to Humpries Bay – 3 hour walk – return transfer to the Landing jetty
- Approximately 7kms (3 hrs) one way walk to the Tarawera Outlet
- Skill level moderate
- Essentials: Good walking shoes, warm jacket, camera and bottle of water
- Combine with the walk to the Tarawera Falls for a full day adventure
