Tarawera/Waimangu Discovery Combo
Allow 30 minutes
You’ll depart the Tarawera Landing by float plane and track south towards the Waimangu Volcanic Valley and south to Wai-o-Tapu Thermal Reserve. This journey will take you past the steaming cliffs and hot thermal lakes of this colourful and diverse volcanic region. From here you will fly over Mt Tarawera’s crater rift and try to comprehend the massive destruction caused by the 1886 eruption.
Return to The Landing jetty via Lake Tarawera and the Blue and Green Lakes.

Tarawera/Orakei Korako - Discovery Combo
Allow 2 hours 15 minutes
Depart the Tarawera Landing by float plane and head south passing the Blue and Green Lakes en route to the geothermal park of Orakei Korako – “the Hidden Valley”. Your aircraft will land you on the crystal clear waters of the Waikato River, where you will transfer by boat to explore this picturesque wonderland, home to some of the largest silica terraces in the world.
Re-board your aircraft and return via Wai-o-Tapu and view innumerable thermal colour palettes on show. Fly over the multi eco-tourism award winning Waimangu, past the steaming cliffs and hot lakes, over the spectacular Mt Tarawera crater rift to wonder at the massive signs of destruction caused by the 1886 eruption. Continue past the Makatiti Lava Dome and over Lake Tarawera before descending to land back at “The Landing” jetty.
