Blessing of the Boats
The 1st of October marks the opening of trout fishing for boats on Lake Tarawera attracting thousands of anglers. To celebrate the opening, on the 30th September at around 5:00pm, The Landing proudly hosts a ceremony to bless the many boats tied up at the lake edge.
This is undoubtedly one of the biggest social events of the year for Lake Tarawera. The Landing has food and beverage available for purchase and live entertainment throughout the night.
Originally a Scottish tradition, the ceremony involves ‘Blessing of the Boats’ and ‘Piping of the Haggis’.

Trout Fishing Competitions
The Landing hosts an annual trout competition for the biggest Rainbow Trout catch on opening day. Tarawera is renowned for its trophy trout - so the prize catch is always a beauty.

The Landing hosts a Family Day at the Tarawera Orchard on the 5th January every year, in order to celebrate our community and for extended holiday makers visiting the lake. We provide live entertainment, activities for the children, bring your own picnic or try some delicious options from our food stalls.
